Originally from Asia, limes are now cultivated in most warm countries. The lime was first introduced to Europe by the Moors, prior to its introduction to the Americas. Ship crews depended on limes to prevent scurvy when they were at sea for long periods without fruit and vegetables. Over time the therapeutic properties of lime oil were found to be antiseptic, anti-viral, restorative and tonic. It has been used to help cool fevers and support the immune system. Lime is also believed to stimulate and refresh a tired mind.
Safety Considerations
This oil is phototoxic and may be irritating to the skin. Add to milk prior to dispersing in the bath as contact with heat makes lime oil more reactive with the skin. People with sensitive skin should avoid using this oil in the bath. NOT recommended for use during pregnancy. If ingested, drink milk. Avoid eyes: flush with water. Keep out of reach of children.
